This month’s Hymn is dedicated to Pete Schaffer.
Pete Schaffer’s favorite song was “Go, Tell It On the Mountain.”
Pete was a World War II Veteran, Corporal in the Army. He lived in Parma before meeting his wife Pat Mills. They met on a blind date. When Pat graduated from high school he gave her an engagement ring and they were married in the Berea Congregational Church in 1951.
Pete liked music and sang in PTA Singers. He also sang in the Columbia United Methodist Church Choir. They had three children and all of them graduated from Columbia High School.
Pete was employed by Capital/United Airlines for 37 years, which enabled them to fly quite a lot. He liked bowling and was on several teams. He was very active in his children’s sports activities.
His daughter Pam was a teacher for 25 years, Pete Jr. is a tax man and Paul is a district senior manager for Best Buy.
Pete and Pat renewed their marriage vows in the Columbia United Methodist Church after 25 years of marriage. It was a mile stone for them and also for the church because that was the year of the church fire. Pete’s health began failing and he passed away in 1995 after 44 years of marriage.
He was a member of Columbia United Methodist Church and served in many of the church activities and was janitor for the church for many years.
